A. Lange & Söhne

A. Lange & Söhne is a watchmaking company that began in Glashütte in 1845. Ferdinand Adolph Lange employed 15 watchmakers with the support of the state and, after initial difficulties, managed to make the business profitable. In 1875, Lange’s sons and grandsons inherited the Lange watch factory, which by then employed around 100 people. Lange & Söhne produced dress watches in precious metals using Swiss or glass machinery. After the Second World War, the company disappeared for a long time until 1989, when Walter Lange, a member of the Lange family, revived the brand. One of the first models to be launched was the Lange 1, which remains one of the brand’s most popular models to this day.
