Cartier

Louis-François Cartier founded Cartier in Paris in 1847. However, it was his grandsons Louis, Pierre and Jacgues who made the company world famous. Louis Cartier ran the company’s workshop in Paris, where Cartier’s mystery watches and fashionable wristwatches were made. In 1904, Louis Cartier’s friend, the Brazilian pioneer pilot Albert Santos-Dumont, complained to him about the unreliability and impracticality of pocket watches for flying, so Cartier designed a low, square watch with a bezel for his friend. This watch was Cartier’s first men’s wristwatch and was called the “Santos”. The most popular Cartier wristwatches in today’s collection are the Santos De Cartier, Calibre de Cartier, Drive de Cartier and Tank.
